The icon has been used in UMC for a long time, and I think the original artist is probably Dibs.

13b5e8421a Rewrote Tentacle of the Deep base image path to include a fallback
For example the units.wesnoth.org pages cannot process IPFs, and will use the base image file verbatim, so this makes sure that it at least shows the tentacle base frame instead of blank-hex.png.

fc422a7ac5 Added Giant Rat portrait by ZygoUgo (manual merge of PR #1715)
I cleaned up the transparent areas of the image, increased height to a more standard 200px and moved the ARTISTS file entry to the right spot.

08420e6d10 Invert alpha animation for Shadow (bug #14503) (#984)
Another adjustment as part of bug #14503. Idea is to make the Shadow alpha level spend more time between 0.6-0.8 instead of 0.4-0.6. So when the Shadow's Nightstalker ability becomes active at night time, the alpha level is mostly between 0.3-0.4 instead of 0.2-0.3, making it marginally more visible.

fe6c5ef2a8 weapon name changes
units using flails, maces or morningstars use the correct name and icon for it
many khalifate units use swords instead of longswords
shield is now called shield bash

07aea40091 changed submerge to 0.4 in aquatic castles
wolfrider do use their standard sprite on terrain with 0.3 sumberge, and the water sprite on deeper
However, the wolf (it's the same sprite, just without rider) uses  on any water terrain the water sprite

1606bb72ce Made Drake Flying Animations working on more terrains.
E.g. they weren't working on water with water lilies before.
The terrain codes are now more generic too, for the case somebody wants to make an UMC variation.

Also had a look on other places where terrain codes get used.

6abd7a6941 Add [message]image_pos=left|right
This is meant to replace ~RIGHT() and also the newer ~LEFT(),
with one exception: ~RIGHT() will still be the standard way to
make a unit's portrait go on the right by default.

7c37ad57bd Two new [message] features
- ~LEFT() does the opposite of ~RIGHT(), but takes higher priority;
  use it to force an image to the left that's normally on the right
  (eg female silver mage)
- image=~RIGHT() means "use normal portrait, but on the right"
