9c238ebd55 Add 'LABEL' command from '--label' to the last stage
This PR is tring to fix issue #36996.

Currently for multi-stage build, if `--target` specified, the `--label` option
will be ignored. The root cause is the last stage build will remove the `LABEL`
command(s) node created from the `--label` option. In order to address this issue,
we can create `LABEL` command(s) and add it/tem to the last stage.

7c0570473c Fix the target name issue for multi-stage build
This PR is trying to fix issue #36956.

The stage name is case-insensitive by design, so we should use
`strings.EqualFold()` as the comparison method to eliminate the
case sensitive noise.

Also we need to return a pre-defined error code order to avoid below
message like:
"FIXME: Got an API for which error does not match any expected type!!!:
failed to reach build target dev in Dockerfile"

7d62e40f7e Switch from x/net/context -> context
Since Go 1.7, context is a standard package. Since Go 1.9, everything
that is provided by "x/net/context" is a couple of type aliases to
types in "context".

Many vendored packages still use x/net/context, so vendor entry remains
for now.

8c52560ea4 Windows: Pass back system errors on container exit
Signed-off-by: John Howard <jhoward@microsoft.com>

While debugging #32838, it was found (https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/32838#issuecomment-356005845) that the utility VM in some circumstances was crashing. Unfortunately, this was silently thrown away, and as far as the build step (also applies to docker run) was concerned, the exit code was zero and the error was thrown away. Windows containers operate differently to containers on Linux, and there can be legitimate system errors during container shutdown after the init process exits. This PR handles this and passes the error all the way back to the client, and correctly causes a build step running a container which hits a system error to fail, rather than blindly trying to keep going, assuming all is good, and get a subsequent failure on a commit.

With this change, assuming an error occurs, here's an example of a failure which previous was reported as a commit error:

```
The command 'powershell -Command $ErrorActionPreference = 'Stop'; $ProgressPreference = 'SilentlyContinue'; Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-App-Dev ;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name ADLDS;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Mgmt-Compat;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Mgmt-Service;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Metabase;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Lgcy-Scripting;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-WMI;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-WHC;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Scripting-Tools;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Net-Ext45;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-ASP;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-ISAPI-Ext;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-ISAPI-Filter;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Default-Doc;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Dir-Browsing;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Http-Errors;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Static-Content;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Http-Redirect;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-DAV-Publishing;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Health;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Http-Logging;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Custom-Logging;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Log-Libraries;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Request-Monitor;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Http-Tracing;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Stat-Compression;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Dyn-Compression;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Security;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Windows-Auth;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Basic-Auth;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Url-Auth;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-WebSockets;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name Web-AppInit;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name NET-WCF-HTTP-Activation45;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name NET-WCF-Pipe-Activation45;   Install-WindowsFeature -Name NET-WCF-TCP-Activation45;' returned a non-zero code: 4294967295: container shutdown failed: container ba9c65054d42d4830fb25ef55e4ab3287550345aa1a2bb265df4e5bfcd79c78a encountered an error during WaitTimeout: failure in a Windows system call: The compute system exited unexpectedly. Without this change, it would be incorrectly reported such as in this comment: https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/32838#issuecomment-309621097
The goal of this refactor is to make it easier to integrate buildkit
with distinct arguments. Refactored to pull out the common commit
87a12421a9 Add helpers to create errdef errors
Instead of having to create a bunch of custom error types that are doing
nothing but wrapping another error in sub-packages, use a common helper
to create errors of the requested type.
e.g. instead of re-implementing this over and over:
```go
type notFoundError struct {
  cause error
}

func(e notFoundError) Error() string {
  return e.cause.Error()
}

func(e notFoundError) NotFound() {}

func(e notFoundError) Cause() error {
  return e.cause
}
```
Packages can instead just do:
```
  errdefs.NotFound(err)
```
0380fbff37 LCOW: API: Add platform to /images/create and /build
Signed-off-by: John Howard <jhoward@microsoft.com>
This PR has the API changes described in https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/34617.
Specifically, it adds an HTTP header "X-Requested-Platform" which is a JSON-encoded
OCI Image-spec `Platform` structure.
In addition, it renames (almost all) uses of a string variable platform (and associated)
methods/functions to os. This makes it much clearer to disambiguate with the swarm
"platform" which is really os/arch. This is a stepping stone to getting the daemon towards
fully multi-platform/arch-aware, and makes it clear when "operating system" is being
referred to rather than "platform" which is misleadingly used - sometimes in the swarm
meaning, but more often as just the operating system.
Warn on empty continuation lines only, not for comments
Commit 8d1ae76dcb added
deprecation warnings for empty continuation lines,
but also treated comment-only lines as empty.
This patch distinguishes empty continuation lines
from comment-only lines, and only outputs warnings
for the former.
7a7357dae1 LCOW: Implemented support for docker cp + build
This enables docker cp and ADD/COPY docker build support for LCOW.
Originally, the graphdriver.Get() interface returned a local path
to the container root filesystem. This does not work for LCOW, so
the Get() method now returns an interface that LCOW implements to
support copying to and from the container.
bea0a072d8 Fix build with ADD urls without any sub path
This fix tries to address the issue raised in #34208 where
in Dockerfile an `ADD` followed by an url without any sub path
will cause an error.
The issue is because the temporary filename relies on the sub path.
An integration test has been added.
This fix fixes #34208.
ebcb7d6b40 Remove string checking in API error handling
Use strongly typed errors to set HTTP status codes.
Error interfaces are defined in the api/errors package and errors
returned from controllers are checked against these interfaces.
Errors can be wraeped in a pkg/errors.Causer, as long as somewhere in the
line of causes one of the interfaces is implemented. The special error
interfaces take precedence over Causer, meaning if both Causer and one
of the new error interfaces are implemented, the Causer is not
traversed.
913eb99fdc Fix handling of remote "git@" notation
`docker build` accepts remote repositories
using either the `git://` notation, or `git@`.
Docker attempted to parse both as an URL, however,
`git@` is not an URL, but an argument to `git clone`.
Go 1.7 silently ignored this, and managed to
extract the needed information from these
remotes, however, Go 1.8 does a more strict
validation, and invalidated these.
This patch adds a different path for `git@` remotes,
to prevent them from being handled as URL (and
invalidated).
A test is also added, because there were no
tests for handling of `git@` remotes.
7815c8f875 Warn/deprecate continuing on empty lines in Dockerfile
This fix is related to 29005 and 24693. Currently in `Dockerfile`
empty lines will continue as long as there is line escape before.
This may cause some issues. The issue in 24693 is an example.
A non-empty line after an empty line might be considered to be a
separate instruction by many users. However, it is actually part
of the last instruction under the current `Dockerfile` parsing
rule.
This fix is an effort to reduce the confusion around the parsing
of `Dockerfile`. Even though this fix does not change the behavior
of the `Dockerfile` parsing, it tries to deprecate the empty line
continuation and present a warning for the user. In this case,
at least it prompt users to check for the Dockerfile and avoid
the confusion if possible.
cfdf84d5d0 Update Container Wait Backend
This patch consolidates the two WaitStop and WaitWithContext methods
on the container.State type. Now there is a single method, Wait, which
takes a context and a bool specifying whether to wait for not just a
container exit but also removal.
The behavior has been changed slightly so that a wait call during a
Created state will not return immediately but instead wait for the
container to be started and then exited.
The interface has been changed to no longer block, but instead returns
a channel on which the caller can receive a *StateStatus value which
indicates the ExitCode or an error if there was one (like a context
timeout or state transition error).
These changes have been propagated through the rest of the deamon to
preserve all other existing behavior.
5894bc1abf Add docker build --iidfile=FILE
This is synonymous with `docker run --cidfile=FILE` and writes the digest of
the newly built image to the named file. This is intended to be used by build
systems which want to avoid tagging (perhaps because they are in CI or
otherwise want to avoid fixed names which can clash) by enabling e.g. Makefile
constructs like:
    image.id: Dockerfile
    	docker build --iidfile=image.id .
    do-some-more-stuff: image.id
    	do-stuff-with <image.id
Currently the only way to achieve this is to use `docker build -q` and capture
the stdout, but at the expense of losing the build output.
In non-silent mode (without `-q`) with API >= v1.29 the caller will now see a
`JSONMessage` with the `Aux` field containing a `types.BuildResult` in the
output stream for each image/layer produced during the build, with the final
one being the end product.  Having all of the intermediate images might be
interesting in some cases.
In silent mode (with `-q`) there is no change, on success the only output will
be the resulting image digest as it was previosuly.
There was no wrapper to just output an Aux section without enclosing it in a
Progress, so add one here.
Added some tests to integration cli tests.
1076ab58ec builder: Make builtin arg pruning work with > 1 arg
The previous implementation would error out with "Unexpected EOF" which
was caused by an underlying "array index out-of-bounds" error.
The root cause was deleting items from the same array that was being
iterated over. The iteration was unaware that the array size had
changed, resulting in an error.
The new implementation builds a new array instead of mutating a copy of
the old one.
6052f2b396 Remove pkg/testutil/assert in favor of testify
I noticed that we're using a homegrown package for assertions. The
functions are extremely similar to testify, but with enough slight
differences to be confusing (for example, Equal takes its arguments in a
different order). We already vendor testify, and it's used in a few
places by tests.
I also found some problems with pkg/testutil/assert. For example, the
NotNil function seems to be broken. It checks the argument against
"nil", which only works for an interface. If you pass in a nil map or
slice, the equality check will fail.
In the interest of avoiding NIH, I'm proposing replacing
pkg/testutil/assert with testify. The test code looks almost the same,
but we avoid the confusion of having two similar but slightly different
assertion packages, and having to maintain our own package instead of
using a commonly-used one.
In the process, I found a few places where the tests should halt if an
assertion fails, so I've made those cases (that I noticed) use "require"
instead of "assert", and I've vendored the "require" package from
testify alongside the already-present "assert" package.
0836023847 Fix image's CMD after WORKDIR in Dockerfile
This fix tries to fix 29667 where image's `CMD` is modified
after `WORKDIR` in Dockerfile.
The value of `b.runConfig.Cmd` was modified in the processing
of `WORKDIR`, in order to fix 28902. However, the same
`b.runConfig.Cmd` is passed to `commit()`.
This fix restored the `b.runConfig.Cmd` before `commit()`
the image for `WORKDIR`.
A test has been added.
This fix fixes 29667.
847564fa49 Clean up tmp files for interrupted docker build
This fix tries to fix the issue raised in 29486 where interrupted
`docker build` leaves some tmp files in `/var/lib/docker/tmp`.
With tmp file name prefixed with `/var/lib/docker/tmp/docker-builderXXXXXX`.
The reason for the issue is that in `MakeTarSumContext()`:
```
	if err := chrootarchive.Untar(sum, root, nil); err != nil {
		return nil, err
	}
```
the `err` is shadowed and caused the clean up function in `defer func()`
not being called.
This fix fixes the issue.
This fix is tested manually, as was specified in 29486:
```
rm -rf /var/lib/docker/tmp

mkdir repro && cd repro
fallocate -l 300M bigfile

cat > Dockerfile <<EOF
FROM scratch
COPY ./bigfile /
EOF

docker build .
{Cancel}

ls -la /var/lib/docker/tmp
```
cdb8ea90b0 Fix processing of unset build-args during build
This reverts 26103.  26103 was trying to make it so that if someone did:
  docker build --build-arg FOO .
and FOO wasn't set as an env var then it would pick-up FOO from the
Dockerfile's ARG cmd.  However, it went too far and removed the ability
to specify a build arg w/o any value. Meaning it required the --build-arg
param to always be in the form "name=value", and not just "name".
This PR does the right fix - it allows just "name" and it'll grab the value
from the env vars if set. If "name" isn't set in the env then it still needs
to send "name" to the server so that a warning can be printed about an
unused --build-arg. And this is why buildArgs in the options is now a
*string instead of just a string - 'nil' == mentioned but no value.
6f7e8d1d7f Use filepath.Clean in normaliseWorkdir for windows
As is seem in the comment of `normaliseWorkdir` for windows:
```
...
	//	WORKDIR c:\\foo                 --> C:\foo
	//	WORKDIR \\foo                   --> C:\foo
...
```
However, this is not the case in the current implementation because
`filepath.FromSlash` is used and `FromSlash` does not replace multiple
separator with a single one (`file.Clean` does).
So `normaliseWorkdir` does not truly normalize workdir.
This fix changes the implementation of `normaliseWorkdir` and use
`filepath.Clean` instead of `filepath.FromSlash`.
Additional test cases have been added to the unit test.
on dockerfile is not checked before building, thus user has to wait
before seeing error in dockerfile.
This fix fixes the issue by evaluating all the instructions and check
syntax before dockerfile is invoked actually.
All existing tests pass.
df167d3ff0 Fix issue with test ordering for TestParseWords
`TestParseWords` needs to use the `tokenEscape` for one of the test
cases, but `tokenEscape` was not being set unless tests ran in a
specific order.
This sets a default value for `tokenEscape`... `\`... so that tests that
rely on this global are not affected by test ordering.
This is the simplest fix for these cases. Ideally the token should not
be set as a global but rather passed down, which is a much larger
change.
Add support for user-defined healthchecks
This PR adds support for user-defined health-check probes for Docker
containers. It adds a `HEALTHCHECK` instruction to the Dockerfile syntax plus
some corresponding "docker run" options. It can be used with a restart policy
to automatically restart a container if the check fails.
The `HEALTHCHECK` instruction has two forms:
* `HEALTHCHECK [OPTIONS] CMD command` (check container health by running a command inside the container)
* `HEALTHCHECK NONE` (disable any healthcheck inherited from the base image)
The `HEALTHCHECK` instruction tells Docker how to test a container to check that
it is still working. This can detect cases such as a web server that is stuck in
an infinite loop and unable to handle new connections, even though the server
process is still running.
When a container has a healthcheck specified, it has a _health status_ in
addition to its normal status. This status is initially `starting`. Whenever a
health check passes, it becomes `healthy` (whatever state it was previously in).
After a certain number of consecutive failures, it becomes `unhealthy`.
The options that can appear before `CMD` are:
* `--interval=DURATION` (default: `30s`)
* `--timeout=DURATION` (default: `30s`)
* `--retries=N` (default: `1`)
The health check will first run **interval** seconds after the container is
started, and then again **interval** seconds after each previous check completes.
If a single run of the check takes longer than **timeout** seconds then the check
is considered to have failed.
It takes **retries** consecutive failures of the health check for the container
to be considered `unhealthy`.
There can only be one `HEALTHCHECK` instruction in a Dockerfile. If you list
more than one then only the last `HEALTHCHECK` will take effect.
The command after the `CMD` keyword can be either a shell command (e.g. `HEALTHCHECK
CMD /bin/check-running`) or an _exec_ array (as with other Dockerfile commands;
see e.g. `ENTRYPOINT` for details).
The command's exit status indicates the health status of the container.
The possible values are:
- 0: success - the container is healthy and ready for use
- 1: unhealthy - the container is not working correctly
- 2: starting - the container is not ready for use yet, but is working correctly
If the probe returns 2 ("starting") when the container has already moved out of the
"starting" state then it is treated as "unhealthy" instead.
For example, to check every five minutes or so that a web-server is able to
serve the site's main page within three seconds:
    HEALTHCHECK --interval=5m --timeout=3s \
      CMD curl -f http://localhost/ || exit 1
To help debug failing probes, any output text (UTF-8 encoded) that the command writes
on stdout or stderr will be stored in the health status and can be queried with
`docker inspect`. Such output should be kept short (only the first 4096 bytes
are stored currently).
When the health status of a container changes, a `health_status` event is
generated with the new status. The health status is also displayed in the
`docker ps` output.
