  24. <h2>DNS Setup</h2>
  25. <ol>
  26. <li>For Windows DNS, go to Start &gt; Windows Administrative Tools &gt; DNS</li>
  27. <li>Expand the DNS server and domain name</li>
  28. <li>Right Click &gt; New Host (A or AAAA)</li>
  29. <li>Type ftp as the hostname and the target IP address &gt; Click OK</li>
  30. </ol>
  31. <h2>Create Your SSL Certificate</h2>
  32. <ol>
  33. <li>Launch XCA</li>
  34. <li>Open the PKI database if it is not already (File &gt; Open DataBase), enter password</li>
  35. <li>Click on the Certificates tab, right click on your Intermediate CA certificate</li>
  36. <li>Select New</li>
  37. <li>On the Source tab, make sure Use this Certificate for signing is selected</li>
  38. <li>Verify your Intermediate CA certificate is selected from the drop down</li>
  39. <li>Click the Subject tab</li>
  40. <li>Complete the Distinguished Name section
  41. <p>internalName: ftp.i12bretro.local<br />
  42. countryName: US<br />
  43. stateOrProvinceName: Virginia<br />
  44. localityName: Northern<br />
  45. organizationName: i12bretro<br />
  46. organizationUnitName: i12bretro Certificate Authority<br />
  47. commonName: ftp.i12bretro.local</p>

  49. <li>Click the Generate a New Key button</li>
  50. <li>Enter a name and set the key size to at least 2048</li>
  51. <li>Click Create</li>
  52. <li>Click on the Extensions tab</li>
  53. <li>Select End Entity from the type list</li>
  54. <li>Click Edit next to Subject Alternative Name</li>
  55. <li>Add any DNS or IP addresses that the certificate will identify</li>
  56. <li>Update the validity dates to fit your needs</li>
  57. <li>Click the Key Usage tab</li>
  58. <li>Under Key Usage select Digital Signature, Key Enchiperment</li>
  59. <li>Under Extended Key Usage select Web Server and Web Client Authentication</li>
  60. <li>Click the Netscape tab</li>
  61. <li>Select SSL Server</li>
  62. <li>Click OK to create the certificate</li>

  64. <h2>Exporting Required Files</h2>
  65. <ol>
  66. <li>In XCA, click on the Certificates tab</li>
  67. <li>Right click the SSL certificate &gt; Export &gt; File</li>
  68. <li>Set the file name to ftp.crt verify the export format is PEM (*.crt)</li>
  69. <li>Click OK</li>
  70. <li>Click the Private Keys tab</li>
  71. <li>Right click the private key generated for the SSL certificate &gt; Export &gt; File</li>
  72. <li>Set the file name to ftp.key and verify the export format is PEM Private (*.pem)</li>
  73. <li>Click OK</li>
  74. <li>Copy the two exported files to the FileZilla Server installation directory, typically C:\Program Files\FileZilla</li>

  76. <h2>Installing FileZilla Server</h2>
  77. <ol>
  78. <li>Download FileZilla Server <a href="https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1&amp;type=server" target="_blank">Download</a></li>
  79. <li>Install Filezilla Server</li>
  80. <li>Launch FileZilla Server Administration</li>
  81. <li>Select Edit &gt; Users from the top navigation</li>
  82. <li>Click the Add button under Users on the right side of the screen</li>
  83. <li>Enter a username &gt; Click OK</li>
  84. <li>Enable the Password field by checking the box &gt; Enter a password for the new user</li>
  85. <li>Click the Shared folders option in the left navigation menu</li>
  86. <li>Click the Add button in the middle of the page</li>
  87. <li>Browse to a local directory on the server to grant access to this FTP user</li>
  88. <li>On the right side of the Shared folders pane, set the access level that the user will have on this directory</li>
  89. <li>Click OK to close the Users dialog</li>
  90. <li>Select Edit &gt; Settings from the top navigation</li>
  91. <li>Click FTP over TLS settings from the left navigation</li>
  92. <li>Check the Enable FTP over TLS support box</li>
  93. <li>Click the browse button next to Private key file and browse to the exported .key file</li>
  94. <li>Click the browse button next to Certificate file and browse to the exported .crt file</li>
  95. <li>To force all connections to use SSL, check the Disallow plain unencrypted FTP box</li>
  96. <li>Change the SSL/TLS listen port to 990</li>
  97. <li>Click OK</li>
  98. <li>The FTP server should restart and apply the new settings</li>

  100. <h2>Testing FTPS Connectivity</h2>

  102. <li>Download FileZilla Client <a href="https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1" target="_blank">Download</a></li>
  103. <li>Extract the downloaded .zip file</li>
  104. <li>Run Filezilla.exe</li>
  105. <li>Complete the quickconnect fields as follows
  106. <p>Host: ftps://ftp.i12bretro.local<br />
  107. Username: i12bretro<br />
  108. Password: &lt;ftp password&gt;<br />
  109. Port: 990</p>

  111. <li>On the Unknown Certificate popup, check the Always trust this certificate in future sessions checkbox &gt; Click OK</li>
