  4. .. COMMENT use https://pythonhosted.org/sphinxcontrib-httpdomain/ to
  5. .. document the REST API.
  6. =================
  7. Docker Remote API
  8. =================
  9. 1. Brief introduction
  10. =====================
  11. - The Remote API is replacing rcli
  12. - By default the Docker daemon listens on unix:///var/run/docker.sock and the client must have root access to interact with the daemon
  13. - If a group named *docker* exists on your system, docker will apply ownership of the socket to the group
  14. - The API tends to be REST, but for some complex commands, like attach
  15. or pull, the HTTP connection is hijacked to transport stdout stdin
  16. and stderr
  17. - Since API version 1.2, the auth configuration is now handled client
  18. side, so the client has to send the authConfig as POST in
  19. /images/(name)/push
  20. - authConfig, set as the ``X-Registry-Auth`` header, is currently a Base64 encoded (json) string with credentials:
  21. ``{'username': string, 'password': string, 'email': string, 'serveraddress' : string}``
  22. 2. Versions
  23. ===========
  24. The current version of the API is 1.11
  25. Calling /images/<name>/insert is the same as calling
  26. /v1.11/images/<name>/insert
  27. You can still call an old version of the api using
  28. /v1.11/images/<name>/insert
  29. v1.11

  35. ----------
  36. .. http:get:: /events
  37. **New!** You can now use the ``-until`` parameter to close connection after timestamp.
  38. v1.10

  43. What's new
  44. ----------
  45. .. http:delete:: /images/(name)
  46. **New!** You can now use the force parameter to force delete of an image, even if it's
  47. tagged in multiple repositories.
  48. **New!** You can now use the noprune parameter to prevent the deletion of parent images
  49. .. http:delete:: /containers/(id)
  50. **New!** You can now use the force paramter to force delete a container, even if
  51. it is currently running
  52. v1.9

  54. Full Documentation
  55. ------------------
  56. :doc:`docker_remote_api_v1.9`
  57. What's new
  58. ----------
  59. .. http:post:: /build
  60. **New!** This endpoint now takes a serialized ConfigFile which it uses to
  61. resolve the proper registry auth credentials for pulling the base image.
  62. Clients which previously implemented the version accepting an AuthConfig
  63. object must be updated.
  64. v1.8
  65. ****
  66. Full Documentation
  67. ------------------
  68. What's new
  69. ----------
  70. .. http:post:: /build
  71. **New!** This endpoint now returns build status as json stream. In case
  72. of a build error, it returns the exit status of the failed command.
  73. .. http:get:: /containers/(id)/json
  74. **New!** This endpoint now returns the host config for the container.
  75. .. http:post:: /images/create
  76. .. http:post:: /images/(name)/insert
  77. .. http:post:: /images/(name)/push
  78. **New!** progressDetail object was added in the JSON. It's now possible
  79. to get the current value and the total of the progress without having to
  80. parse the string.
  81. v1.7
  82. ****
  83. Full Documentation
  84. ------------------
  85. What's new
  86. ----------
  87. .. http:get:: /images/json
  88. The format of the json returned from this uri changed. Instead of an entry
  89. for each repo/tag on an image, each image is only represented once, with a
  90. nested attribute indicating the repo/tags that apply to that image.
  91. Instead of:
  92. .. sourcecode:: http
  93. HTTP/1.1 200 OK
  94. Content-Type: application/json

  165. .. http:get:: /images/viz
  166. This URI no longer exists. The ``images --viz`` output is now generated in
  167. the client, using the ``/images/json`` data.

  176. a header to each transmition. See :http:post:`/containers/(id)/attach`.
  177. The WebSocket attach is unchanged.
  178. Note that attach calls on the previous API version didn't change. Stdout and
  179. stderr are merged.

  186. .. http:post:: /images/create
  187. **New!** You can now pass registry credentials (via an AuthConfig object)
  188. through the `X-Registry-Auth` header
  189. .. http:post:: /images/(name)/push
  190. **New!** The AuthConfig object now needs to be passed through
  191. the `X-Registry-Auth` header
  192. .. http:get:: /containers/json
  193. **New!** The format of the `Ports` entry has been changed to a list of
  194. dicts each containing `PublicPort`, `PrivatePort` and `Type` describing a
  195. port mapping.

  202. .. http:post:: /images/create
  203. **New!** When pulling a repo, all images are now downloaded in parallel.
  204. .. http:get:: /containers/(id)/top
  205. **New!** You can now use ps args with docker top, like `docker top <container_id> aux`
  206. .. http:get:: /events:
  207. **New!** Image's name added in the events
  208. v1.3

  210. docker v0.5.0 51f6c4a_
  211. Full Documentation
  212. ------------------
  213. What's new
  214. ----------
  215. .. http:get:: /containers/(id)/top
  216. List the processes running inside a container.
  217. .. http:get:: /events:
  218. **New!** Monitor docker's events via streaming or via polling
  219. Builder (/build):
  220. - Simplify the upload of the build context
  221. - Simply stream a tarball instead of multipart upload with 4
  222. intermediary buffers
  223. - Simpler, less memory usage, less disk usage and faster
  224. .. Warning::
  225. The /build improvements are not reverse-compatible. Pre 1.3 clients
  226. will break on /build.
  227. List containers (/containers/json):
  228. - You can use size=1 to get the size of the containers
  229. Start containers (/containers/<id>/start):
  230. - You can now pass host-specific configuration (e.g. bind mounts) in
  231. the POST body for start calls
  232. v1.2
  233. ****
  234. docker v0.4.2 2e7649b_
  235. Full Documentation
  236. ------------------
  237. What's new
  238. ----------
  239. The auth configuration is now handled by the client.
  240. The client should send it's authConfig as POST on each call of
  241. /images/(name)/push
  242. .. http:get:: /auth
  243. **Deprecated.**
  244. .. http:post:: /auth
  245. Only checks the configuration but doesn't store it on the server
  246. Deleting an image is now improved, will only untag the image if it
  247. has children and remove all the untagged parents if has any.
  248. .. http:post:: /images/<name>/delete
  249. Now returns a JSON structure with the list of images
  250. deleted/untagged.
