  6. =================
  7. Docker Remote API
  8. =================
  9. 1. Brief introduction
  10. =====================
  11. - The Remote API is replacing rcli
  12. - By default the Docker daemon listens on unix:///var/run/docker.sock and the client must have root access to interact with the daemon
  13. - If a group named *docker* exists on your system, docker will apply ownership of the socket to the group
  14. - The API tends to be REST, but for some complex commands, like attach
  15. or pull, the HTTP connection is hijacked to transport stdout stdin
  16. and stderr
  17. - Since API version 1.2, the auth configuration is now handled client
  18. side, so the client has to send the authConfig as POST in
  19. /images/(name)/push
  20. 2. Versions
  21. ===========
  22. The current version of the API is 1.7
  23. Calling /images/<name>/insert is the same as calling
  24. /v1.7/images/<name>/insert
  25. You can still call an old version of the api using
  26. /v1.0/images/<name>/insert
  27. v1.7

  32. What's new
  33. ----------
  34. .. http:get:: /images/json
  35. The format of the json returned from this uri changed. Instead of an entry
  36. for each repo/tag on an image, each image is only represented once, with a
  37. nested attribute indicating the repo/tags that apply to that image.
  38. Instead of:
  39. .. sourcecode:: http
  40. HTTP/1.1 200 OK
  41. Content-Type: application/json

  120. What's new
  121. ----------
  122. .. http:post:: /containers/(id)/attach
  123. **New!** You can now split stderr from stdout. This is done by prefixing
  124. a header to each transmition. See :http:post:`/containers/(id)/attach`.
  125. The WebSocket attach is unchanged.
  126. Note that attach calls on the previous API version didn't change. Stdout and
  127. stderr are merged.

  133. What's new
  134. ----------
  135. .. http:post:: /images/create
  136. **New!** You can now pass registry credentials (via an AuthConfig object)
  137. through the `X-Registry-Auth` header
  138. .. http:post:: /images/(name)/push
  139. **New!** The AuthConfig object now needs to be passed through
  140. the `X-Registry-Auth` header
  141. .. http:get:: /containers/json
  142. **New!** The format of the `Ports` entry has been changed to a list of
  143. dicts each containing `PublicPort`, `PrivatePort` and `Type` describing a
  144. port mapping.

  152. .. http:post:: /images/create
  153. **New!** When pulling a repo, all images are now downloaded in parallel.
  154. .. http:get:: /containers/(id)/top
  155. **New!** You can now use ps args with docker top, like `docker top <container_id> aux`
  156. .. http:get:: /events:
  157. **New!** Image's name added in the events
  158. v1.3

  161. Full Documentation
  162. ------------------
  163. :doc:`docker_remote_api_v1.3`
  164. What's new
  165. ----------
  166. .. http:get:: /containers/(id)/top
  167. List the processes running inside a container.
  168. .. http:get:: /events:
  169. **New!** Monitor docker's events via streaming or via polling
  170. Builder (/build):
  171. - Simplify the upload of the build context
  172. - Simply stream a tarball instead of multipart upload with 4
  173. intermediary buffers
  174. - Simpler, less memory usage, less disk usage and faster
  175. .. Warning::
  176. The /build improvements are not reverse-compatible. Pre 1.3 clients
  177. will break on /build.
  178. List containers (/containers/json):
  179. - You can use size=1 to get the size of the containers
  180. Start containers (/containers/<id>/start):
  181. - You can now pass host-specific configuration (e.g. bind mounts) in
  182. the POST body for start calls
  183. v1.2

  185. docker v0.4.2 2e7649b_
  186. Full Documentation
  187. ------------------
  188. :doc:`docker_remote_api_v1.2`
  189. What's new
  190. ----------
  191. The auth configuration is now handled by the client.
  192. The client should send it's authConfig as POST on each call of
  193. /images/(name)/push
  194. .. http:get:: /auth
  195. **Deprecated.**
  196. .. http:post:: /auth
  197. Only checks the configuration but doesn't store it on the server
  198. Deleting an image is now improved, will only untag the image if it
  199. has children and remove all the untagged parents if has any.
  200. .. http:post:: /images/<name>/delete
  201. Now returns a JSON structure with the list of images
  202. deleted/untagged.

  211. .. http:post:: /images/create
  212. .. http:post:: /images/(name)/insert
  213. .. http:post:: /images/(name)/push
  214. Uses json stream instead of HTML hijack, it looks like this:
  215. .. sourcecode:: http
  216. HTTP/1.1 200 OK
  217. Content-Type: application/json
  218. {"status":"Pushing..."}
